The short answer… To save money on insurance.
If your older home was built to a stricter standard or has specific improvements, the savings on insurance premiums can be quite substantial after a Wind Mitigation Inspection. After Hurricane Andrew in 1992, Miami-Dade and Broward Counties passed ordinances requiring homes to be built to Category 5 Hurricane Standards. Later, Florida Legislators required insurance companies to give discounts to home owners who’s homes had very specific improvements or upgrades. Many Florida home owners do not know of this law and fewer understand the aspects of the inspected areas impact on their insurance price. Identifying these improvements are the key to getting the best rate.
